Dear Village Family, In light of declining COVID-19 numbers and our Governor lifting his mask mandate, The Village Church - Lutheran Board of Elders met to discuss how we will move forward.  The CDC is still recommending that if you are inside, whether you are vaccinated or not, you should wear a mask.  With the upgrades to our facility and lower COVID-19 numbers in St. Tammany Parish, the elders voted to lift the mask requirement indoors.  If you feel more comfortable with a mask on, please feel free to continue do so.  Your Pastor and your elders will continue to wear a mask while distributing communion. Please remember we gather as a family and are responsible to each other.  Many of our church family have received their vaccination(s).  Still, many of our members may have underlying health issues that warrant them to continue to wear a mask.  Please be respectful of their personal situation and...

Lenten Journey

Satan, the world and our sinful flesh daily tempt us to unbelief, despair and other great shame and vice. Some of these temptations come through the excesses of Western culture — excesses that have become so ubiquitous, we hardly recognize them as excesses. We have so many choices that we can be picky about the least important things in life.  The March issue of The Lutheran Witness reflects on fasting as a tool for fighting temptation and excess. Fasting has a long history in the church; at the same time, some in the church have abused fasting. We will, at times, fail; we will fall to temptation, regardless of how much fasting we do. At such times, we may turn to individual Confession and Absolution and hear words of forgiveness and encouragement. Where we have failed, Christ succeeds. He fasted perfectly for us. Most important, He lived and died perfectly f...

Saying Goodbye

Image
Today our Village family said goodbye to the Selking family. It was a very emotional service from my standpoint for multiple reasons. We celebrated the rite of confirmation for two students, Grant and Molly. This was also their first time to receive the Lord's Supper on Sunday. It was truly a special day.  But I actually thought I had one more Sunday with the Selking family before they left, but I was wrong. Lesson learned, never take things for granted. So what can you say about them? It has been such a pleasure to have them as part of our church family. We will miss them and the many roles they helped fill at our church. Godspeed to you  Pastor

Luther's desk We thought we would try something new here at The Village.  Nothing fancy and most definitely behind the times, but hey, better late than never.  The Village blog... Time for a little rambling and updates about what is going on at The Village. This will be my new method of getting information out to you, the members of the church. Sign up and check your email for a confirmation email for this blog. Thanks
